Murphy's Law

I'm so bummed that I didn't get to enjoy Earth Day. Of course, the days I have to be stuck inside window-less walls are the most beautiful so far this year. I was extremely depressed to see that the next couple days or so are going to be chilly and rainy, again. I shouldn't complain, though because we could always get another freak noreaster'...

Seriously, I spent like 40 hours this weekend either working on my lab or in a meeting for a group project. And my lab report is nowhere near done. Anyway, finally done with TWO classes. So just five more to go. Should be able to finish my biotech lab within the next 36 hours (::crosses fingers::), and then four finals on Friday, Monday, and Thursday. In some ways this semester has been both my best and my worst. In terms of mental health, enjoying classes, understanding concepts, and producing work I've been proud of (for once), this has definitely been my best semester. In terms of sleep, sheer amount of reading and assignments, and time I got to spend with friends, this semester has definitely been my worst. I am thankful to know that I will NEVER have to balance this many classes again.

Good luck to everyone on finals! Enjoy the sun and warm weather while it lasts!!

so hell week 1 of 3 begins... i'm glad i'll be staying at penn during senior week into alumni weekend and commencement, commitment free for once! minus some personal things to take care of and some rotc planning for upcoming o-week, i should have some mental veg time that i know will be much needed.

so, seriously, if i've been ignoring you all semester, be prepared to spend some time with me, if you're still here!

oh, also, some good news :) my family is FINALLY moving back to texas... june 9th, baby. i can't wait. it's going to be crazy because my parents should be arriving in san antonio about the same time that i finish up summer cruise around a couple of days later... so hopefully i'm ready to fly home after my parents arrive in texas; otherwise, i will have no home to go to. seriously, i'll have to come back to phily and bum off of friends here until i fly out to korea for abroad. ay! it's going to be tight...

anyway, good luck with the last week of classes everyone!

lessons i've learned thus far in college:

1. Don't sell yourself short by only playing to your strengths. Study what you love, even if it's not what you consider yourself to "be good at." Over four years' time, you can only get better.

2. No one is perfect. It is much easier to sit back and criticize than to be actually envision yourself in the shoes of policy makers. Public "spotlight" can put an unimaginable amount of pressure on any person. Don't be so quick to judge the decisions of those who are at the head of the government. They don't get to pick and choose their battles because the people choose them for them.

3. Meeting someone humanizes them. We all put our pants on one leg at a time.

4. You can't do everything. No matter how much you want it.

5. It is okay to follow idealistic dreams.

I think over the past two and half years, I've realized how much I want to pursue a career with 'service' as its backbone. I don't want to work in the private sector to make some CEO rich or improve the name of some brand. I never want to get caught up or lost in that mess. I want to do something that is so much bigger.

I want to serve.
